Faraday Rotation on Spaceborne Synthetic Apertu...

This book discusses and analyse the use of P band SAR observations with emphasis on the Faraday rotation of the plane of radio wave traveling in the ionosphere. Forest biomass and other earth parameters can be retrieved using SAR data. Faraday rotation effects must be calibrated towards the generalization of biomass retrieval for varied forest and environmental conditions. To this aim, we developed experimental and theoretical approaches allowing the understanding of the system models and simulation that allows the study of Faraday rotation angle. The FR angle, channel imbalance and crosstalk are successively derived by using the measured scattering matrices from the active and passive calibrators. The formula derivation procedure and data processing scheme are presented. The computer simulations and numerical studies in terms of the typical FR angle and system error values are presented to illustrate and compare the performance of the calibration approaches.

Remote Sensing of Vegetation by Polarimetric Sp...

Over the last few years satellite remote sensing has become a standard tool for monitoring the properties and the evolution of vegetation on Earth. This book addresses primarily the role that polarimetric and interferometric radars play in forest remote sensing. The first two chapters introduce the basics of synthetic aperture radars and microwave scattering modeling. Chapter three treats the topic of polarimetric interferometry and presents a physical model of decorrelation that occurs in forest canopies observed by a repeat-pass radar interferometer. Chapter four deals with the topic of compact polarimetric-interferometry and examines the performance of this new imaging mode in contrast to full polarimetric interferometry. Finally, chapter five discusses the quality of polarimetric radar data and the algorithms for radiometric calibration and Faraday rotation estimation. The emphasis of the book is on the modeling aspects and the design of new algorithms. The book should be especially useful to radar engineers and ecosystem scientists who consider using polarimetric and interferometric techniques for the remote sensing of the terrestrial environment.

Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. NASA has recently caught up various photos of the mile-wide asteroid Asteroid 2007 PA8 in November 2012. The various radar images of asteroid 2007 PA8 indicate that it is an elongated, irregularly shaped object approximately one mile wide, with ridges and perhaps craters. Notably, near-earth asteroid was first discovered in 2007 at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory. Asteroid 2007 PA8 possesses a small and dark body. Along with an irregular shape, asteroid 2007 PA8 owns some ridges as well as some craters. Subsequently, it was studied by the Goldstone radar where its exact rotation rate was defined it rorates only once every 3-4 days...

Hook Echo

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The hook echo is one of the classical hallmarks of tornado-producing supercell thunderstorms as seen on a weather radar. The echo is produced by rain, hail, or even debris being wrapped around the supercell. The National Weather Service considers the presence of a hook echo as sufficient to justify issuing a tornado warning. The hook echo has been recognized as a sign of tornado development for most of weather radar's existence. The first documented tracking of a hook echo was on April 9, 1953 by the Illinois State Water Survey, during preparations for an early test of radar's ability to measure rainfall rates. Hook echoes are not always obvious. In the U.S. Southern states, thunderstorms tend to produce heavier rainfall which leads to the high precipitation variation supercell and obscures the hook shape. HP supercells will instead take on a kidney bean shape. The use of doppler weather radar systems such as NEXRAD allows for detection of tornadoes even when the hook echo is not present, and for greater certainty when it is. By detecting the relative velocities of different parts of a storm, doppler radar can detect areas of rotation.

This book presents new and advanced concepts, theories and methodologies in polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) target scattering mechanism modeling and interpretation, which is dedicated to bridge the gap between the acquired data and practical applications. It proposes adaptive and generalized polarimetric target decompositions, to precisely interpret the target scattering mechanisms. Further, it develops a uniform polarimetric matrix rotation theory and a polarimetric coherence pattern visualization and interpretation tool to completely explore and characterize the deep information and target signatures in the rotation domain. Finally, it demonstrates land cover classification, target detection, natural disaster damage investigation and mapping applications which use the novel scattering mechanism investigation tools. The book is a valuable resource for senior undergraduate and postgraduate students, teachers, engineers and researchers in the field of microwave remote sensing, radar polarimetry, imaging radar, and environmental studies.

Geosynchronous SAR: System and Signal Processing

This book chiefly addresses the analysis and design of geosynchronous synthetic aperture radar (GEO SAR) systems, focusing on the algorithms, analysis, methods used to compensate for ionospheric influences, and validation experiments for Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). Further, it investigates special problems in the GEO SAR context, such as curved trajectories, the Earth’s rotation, the ‘non-stop-and-go’ model, high-order Doppler parameters, temporal-variant ionospheric errors etc. These studies can also be extended to SAR with very high resolution and long integration time. Given the breadth and depth of its coverage, scientists and engineers in SAR and advanced graduate students in related areas will greatly benefit from this book.
